Trendwatching.com has come up with the consumers trends for 2010.  For those who want a quick summary for the report here are the 10 trends for 2010.

1: Business as unusual, companies will have will have to move with the times and the culture.  They will have to listen and engage in conversations rather than one way advertising.

2: Urbany, over time more and more people are now moving from rural towns into cities.  In the last two decades cities have grown by an average of 3 million per week.   People are more sophisticated and more demanding and with the new transparency in communications people in rural areas will also act like urban consumers.  With Urbany you also have to consider Urban Pride, due to the growth of new mega cities whose economic power surpasses that of entire nations.  Companies will now be more market specific to cities rather than regions.

3: Real Time Reviews, with the growth of twitter etc people are now sharing what they are doing, purchasing, watching, eating etc in real time.   2010 will see consumers tuning to live reviews before making a purchasing decision.

4: (F) Luxury, luxury will be whatever ever you wan t it to be.  Luxury is defined by scarcity and consumers trying to be unique.   So by finding and developing the right symbol for the right audience you can define your own luxury product or market.

5: Mass Mingling, social media is about people finding, connecting and tracking people with common interests and thanks to the development of the mobile web the gap between online and offline is reducing.  In 2010 it will be easier for consumers to meet up either offline or online.

6: Eco-Easy, companies will make products and processes more sustainable without consumers even noticing it, and, if necessary, not leaving much room for consumers and companies to opt for less sustainable alternatives to begin with.

7: Tracking & Alerting, this will be the new searching, as it saves consumers time, makes it impossible to forget or miss out, and thus ultimately gives them yet another level of control.  Everything will be tracked and alerted on.

8: Embedded Generosity, corporations will provide imaginative schemes that let customers by letting them co-donate.

9: Profile Myning, with more and more people sharing information online and creating profiles about themselves, their family and their business.  In 2010 people will attract a great emotional and financial value to their profiles.  Businesses will develop a market for services that protect and store one's digital estate.

10: Maturialism, 2010 will be rawer, more opinionated, more risqué, more in your face than ever before.

So what is the take away from this?  2010 will require you to engage, track and be prepared to adjust for the consumers of 2010.  They will be more demanding, more knowledgeable and in more control.
