I’m too old for Facebook and Inbound Marketing

Theory confirmed....perhaps only by one person but I know there are a whole slew of you out there.  I went out for dinner with an old friend and asked how business was going.  Typical answer: "It's going, but we need more leads."  So in return I asked what his thoughts were on useing social networking for inbound marketing and why I was unable to find him on Facebook, Twitter, and even more surprisingly, on LinkedIn.  The response was just as I suspected: I'm too old for that nonsense.

I think there are many people young and old who feel Facebook or Twitter is not for them.  Well I hate to tell you that your excuses have been exposed.  As Wayne Dyer says: "excuses be gone" except this time you've been well exposed by Ellie Mirman who wrote Top 5 Excuses for not Joining Twitter and why they are wrong!

  1. It's a waste of time for my business - Twitter & Facebook makes networking easy, painless, and powerful.
  2. Why do I need this nonsense? - Lines between personal and business networks are blurring.
  3. My customers aren't on Twitter or Facebook or my industry is too niche for Social Media - Have you checked?
  4. It takes too much time -You have the ability to stay on top of the people you want to hear from.
  5. don't want to give people an opportunity to say negative things about me and my company - People are already talking about you. It's better to know what they are saying then to not know.

So what's my advice? Suck it up and give it a shot. There is no avoiding the direction that networking and marketing have taken. If you don't catch up, you'll be left behind.  On that note, we are running a free live webinar on how to use Facebook to increase your online presence and engage with your customers directly.

Topics include:

  • Why social media and Facebook are important
  • Tips for increasing your business presence & engaging with prospects directly on Facebook
  • What to measure and how to track the success of your Facebook programs

Hi,

I originally thought that Facebook, twitter etc were for the very young but I was amazed to find how many of my friends in the 40's are on Facebook etc
