Santa versus Scrooge in Social Media

Everyone is talking about engaging is social media is so important, but what can it tell us? If I am Santa or even Scrooge can it help me understand from a top level view?
Here are some interesting facts picked from a report that I generated.

Inbound Marketing Ireland

So no surprise there that Santa has the majority of the conversations, which is still interesting that Scrooge does have a new movie out "A Christmas Carol", Did this have little effective against Santa?
So next we looking at the when people are talking about them, to see if there is any pattern forming. For sure the majority of the traffic should be at Christmas time. However interesting enough we do have an increase for Santa between March and June. What is happening in this period is Santa doing some PR? Whereas Scrooge stays flat with a small rise in the Christmas period.

The above graph is the traffic in the blogs, this is completely different when we look at the news channels. They appear to be talking about Santa all year!

Santa v Scrooge

The real interesting part is when we look at the Sentiment of the conversions. Scrooge is actually gauged as more positive against Santa. This could because Santa is around longer, or the latest movie generated some positive vide for Scrooge.

Even for such a nice guy, Santa still has some negative comments out there. Is this the bold boys and girls?

We can also look at who is actually engaging in these conversions? It is no surprise that the spilt is the same for both, but that females are talking more. Is that a surprise? Does Scrooge reach out the female population?

Gender Social Media

What about the age make up, when we think about it. We have to take into account access to the interest etc. So I guess it is no surprise that the highest age group is "21-35". But I do like to see that Santa has a can reach to all age groups. Whereas Scrooge is losing out to the "51 and over group", are these not his age group?

And where does the negativity against Santa come from, maybe it is from the Evil Santa!

Nice post! However, isn't the chart of age groups misleading? Does it take into account the general talkativity of the 21-35 agegroup on social media?

Hi James,

Those numbers are based on the blogs for the last 12 months. So that would cut out people like my daughter, at 5 years old she is not reading for blogging yet!
