Coca-Cola new slogan “Twist Social Media For Refreshness”
Posted by Patrick Murphy on Thu, Jan 14, 2010
While it not be the new slogan for 2010 but the fact stays the same. From 2010 Coca-Cola are moving their marketing efforts away from traditional campaign sites to social media with community platforms like Facebook and YouTube.
Coca-Cola is starting the trend of large corporations investing their marketing resources more in social media platforms. Over the coming year Coca-Cola will lead it's international activity for Coke Zero and Fanta through the online channels for Facebook and YouTube.
Prinz Pinakatt, the Coca-Cola Company's interactive marketing manager for Europe, said "We would like to place our activities and brands where people are, rather than dragging them to our platform,"
Another large corporation Unilever is also abandoning traditional campaign sites for community engagement platforms. Cheryl Calverley, Unilever UK's senior global manager for Axe Skin, said, "It's natural online to go to the place where people are already consuming media," she added. "It's less effort to ask people to leave an environment they're already in."
This comes at a time when Facebook has more that 350 million users, 700,000 local businesses that have active Pages on Facebook and 70% of their users are outside the United States.
So will 2010 be the year Facebook, Twitter and YouTube take over the business world? Social networks are growing in popularity every day for both personal and business use. A recent survey conducted in the United Kingdom found that nearly three-quarters of the top brands still had no official presence on Twitter, which shows the potential for growth.
To succeed in 2010 Companies need a strategy that takes into account who their audience is and how they prefer to be reached. Social media efforts can't be half-baked. Starting a company Facebook page, putting a lot of effort into it up-front and then never updating it again is not effective marketing.
