Twitter - Inbound MarketingAccording to a recent UK survey [Source: Econsultancy/Bigmouth Social Media & Online PR Report] Twitter or micro blogging is now the most widely adopted social media tactic employed by business today engaging in social media or inbound marketing. A third of the companies felt that twitter provided tremendous opportunities for their companies in today's competitive market.

When asked what they are using Twitter for  62% of the responses were for publicising new content, 54% for marketing and 47% for brand watching. Only 27% of business are using twitter in customer service, so businesses see the true potential and value for Twitter in social media and inbound marketing.

Touch Inbound MarketingWhile companies are engaging with Twitter it still appears that 15% are only looking but not touching. They are looking to what is said about their brand or industry but not reacting to any comments or tweets. In the companies that do engage 18% have appointed a dedicated person responsible for Twitter, showing that companies are still concerned about the level of freedom that employees have.

So if you are going to use Twitter should you tweet, follow over half of the companies in the UK and use it for inbound marketing by:

Gaining website traffic, Twitter can be used to get traffic to your business websites. Do not forget to ask your friends to tweet about your company, the message will spread faster and further as other active users pick it up.

Business Socializing, Twitter can be used as a socializing platform for you to interact with other people and companies in the same industry or looking for services or products that you offer.

Find Leads, Twitter can be used as a means to find potential leads or clients online. Do a search for keywords that are related to your product of services on Twitter and then follow those users. Tweet about topics parallel to your product and close prospects away from public channels by using direct messages or offline communications.
