You had me at "Inbound Marketing"

Love Inbound MarketingIn case you missed it this weekend was Valentines' weekend and like most couples out there I took few hours out from the internet and inbound marketing to watch a romantic movie with my other half. When I think of some of the great romantic movies I often think of the one-liners that accompany such romantic movies. Whether it could be "You had me at hello" from Jerry Maguire or maybe "Kiss me, Kiss me as if it were the last time" from Casablanca. It is interesting how movies can be broken down to summed up in one-liners.

So what has this got to do with Inbound Marketing and your website? What impression do you want to leave your visitor with when they eventually leave your website? Can you think of your one-liner that is going to leave that lasting impression?

You should try and think about the freshness of your content. Over time you may have noticed that many blogs can often appear higher in the Google rankings for niche phrases or keywords. A percentage of this can be attributed to the inbound links associated within the blogosphere, but the majority can be put down to do with the unique and frequent content published or their one-liners. Search engines especially Google place emphasis on the freshness, frequency and the uniqueness of your content. By keeping your most important content fresh and unique should and will help your boost page weighting.

So what can we tell you? Website pages that have been created more recently have a higher chance to rank more highly but over time they could decline in popularity. Websites that are regularly updated and edited are more likely to rank higher that those which are static for a long period of time and this will not help your inbound marketing strategy.

What can we suggest to help your inbound marketing strategy? Try to develop some policies to ensure that you are updating your content regularly and where possible delete out-of-date content if it is no longer of value for your target market. And if possible publish an audit of your content listing the page creation date, when it was last edited and the page popularity. Oh and while you are at it do not forget to look at the back links to your content. If you have the time review the cached date of your important website pages, whether it is your home page, your product category pages or your blog check that the search engine robots are returning.

And in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "I'll be back"
