According to eConsultancy by engaging in Social Media you can expect the benefit of building your brand as the first major benefit.  This is before the tradtitional financial advantages such as increased revenue or profitability.  According to their poll 73% of companies found that brand awareness as the major benefit of social media.  This was closely followed by increased customer engagement, increased brand reputation and increased communications with the key influencers in their industry.

That takes care of the "softer" brand issues what are the hard facts that you can expect from social media and engaging.  Over 50% of companies confirmed that they had experienced increased direct traffic to their website.  The net effect was that 43% of companies saw an increase in lead generation with just under a third showing growing sales from their engagement in Social Media.

That covers the benefits that can be associated with your engagement in Social Media.  But what is your attitude to Social Media?  Interesting enough nearly two thirds of companies say that social media engagement provide tremendous opportunities for their business.  Taking into account the speed that the internet and Google is developing, no company polled felt that social media is just short term fad of hype.

  • Create video content and use video sharing sites
  • Develop a corporate or brand blog
  • Use social bookmarking sites and news sites
