Social Media and Inbound Marketing Tips from Homer SimpsonHow can Homer Simpson give you tips on Social Media and Inbound Marketing? Well maybe Homer Simpson is cleaver than we all think! He appears to be a popular man as his is well known by all the people in the town of Springfield so he has to be social and doing inbound marketing. So what can we learn from Homer Simpson on Social Media and Inbound Marketing.

Inbound Marketing Tip: "Operator! Give me the number for 911". Make your website as easy as possible for anyone to understand. Take the guess work of what they have to do out. Define a path from your homepage to a landing page and make sure it is easy to follow.

Social Media Tip: "Son, if you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now quiet! They're about to announce the lottery numbers". Only a few days ago did someday say if are not doing the lotto you can't win the lotto. The same goes for Social Media if you are not engaging it is very hard to generate any traffic or leads from it.

Inbound Marketing Tip: "Doughnuts. Is there anything they can't do?" Think about the person who you are targeting and figure out what they want to hear and see on your website. Do not just presume, think about it. Sometimes it is just the simple things they are looking for.

Inbound Marketing Tip: "When will I learn? The answer to life's problems aren't at the bottom of a bottle, they're on TV!" Ok they are not on the TV but people think they will find them on the internet especially when they are not sure what they are looking for. Only recently I was looking for new garage doors, really did not know what I was looking for so turned to the internet. People out there are already looking for what you are offering so make sure that they can find you!

Social Media Tip: "I want to share something with you: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number 1: Cover for me. Number 2: Oh, good idea, Boss! Number 3: It was like that when I got here". Social Media is about sharing your ideas and views. People will always take away something from what you have to say. Twitter is a great example, look at what people are saying there about your industry and learn from it.

Final Social Media and Inbound Marketing Tip: "Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that". That is very true there are stats about social media and inbound marketing everywhere. So my advice is to try social media and inbound marketing and see if work yourself.

I like your take on this. The old adage KISS (Keep It Straight & Simple) often is the easiest, simpliest and most effective method on the Internet. After all another adage says the average person is an idiot (not my personal view) but the point I'm trying to get across (badly) is that lost of people try show how clever they are by delving into the technical details that most of your target market don't understand.
Good point and well put across, keep it simple!

Hi Ian,

You are so right you need to keep it simple. The best salesperson I know is my six year old daughter. She keeps it very simple!
