What not to do with social media

Yesterday I wrote a blog on what is the fuss about social media however I was a little too eager in posting it online. Only a few seconds after posting the blog online I received a tweet about spelling errors still in the blog. It was a valuable lesson for me, that there will be always someone looking so make sure it is right first time and every time. So what are the other errors we could class under "what not to do with social media"
What not to do with social media: Boast. While you might be number one in your field offline, online and in social media it is a very different story. Try to avoid boasting about your skill set instead use your knowledge to help people and earn their respect. Look to solve people problems and in doing so with earn followers and peoples respect.
What not to do with social media: Spam. This really should go without saying, do not spam. And if you have to ask yourself if you are spamming then chances are, you are.
What not to do with social media: Just turning up. Many businesses feel that by just having a twitter account or a facebook page is enough to feel that they have a social media presence. A social media presence is about interacting and engaging. If you are not interacting then you are not really into social media. Learn for the people around you and see how they interact with social media.
What not to do with social media: Forgetting your website. Social media is one of the best mediums today to engage and interact with people online. But remember that social media also drives people to your website. To make the most of your traffic make sure that your website is ready and well placed to take the traffic and where necessary covert the traffic into leads or customers.
While there are many more things that you should not do with social media the flip side is that there are just as many things you should do with social media. And the most important one is to jump in and engage.
