SEO is not rocket science so here are the basics to SEO

SEO and Rocket ScienceIt should not be news to us by now but in case you missed it Google is rated by many as the number one search engine in the world.  And businesses get around 90% of their search engine traffic direct from Google searches so while getting indexed by Google can be a pain and take time, but getting highly placed rankings for specific keywords seems will return your investment.  To help you improve your investment here are the SEO basics you need to win at inbound marketing.

First SEO Tip: Choose the right keyword for your business. Choosing the right keywords to build your site optimization around is an important first step. General or generic keywords are usually not the best approach, and sometimes it’s better to be a little more specific and focus on niche keywords relating to your product or service.

Second SEO Tip: Pick your URL and tag lines carefully.  Two of the most determining factors for Google’s ranking is your website domain name and title tag.  If you have a company name like SiliconCloud which does explain to Google what you are about then use add the keywords from your site optimization into the names for your pages.   Your website page title tag is equally as important as your domain name. So using keywords in your title tag can improve your Google ranking significantly.

Third SEO Tip: Do not forget your H1 Tags.  In simple terms the Google ranking algorithm dictates that if you’re using a <h1> tag, then the text in between this tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page.

Fourth SEO Tip:  Links, Links and more links.  Yes this is the hardest part in comparison to the first three. Back links are websites that link directly to your website. The general principal is the more back links you have, the higher your pages will be ranked, as your website must be good if so many other sites are linking back to it.  Submitting your site to dmoz.org, Yahoo! and other directories is also an important step to increase the number of sites linking back to yours.
