Favourite Website of the Week

Narrowing down a list of my favourite websites was a tall order. Everyday I come across usable, interesting and well-designed websites (and others that are as useful as hat on a duck). But one of my favourites has to be www.urbandictionary.com for sheer unadulterated pleasure. Some the reasons I love this website include:
Interactivity
Forget about learning a foreign language, street lingo is where it’s at! And the Urban Dictionary is chock full of user-submitted words and definitions (over 5 million to be exact). Visitors can vote on the best entries and choose the word of the day, making the website that bit more fun to use. You can submit your own definition of certain words you may have picked up as well. They also provide a texting service. You can get the definition of any slang word sent to your mobile phone through text or get the word of the day through text.
Usability
While it may not be the most striking website it’s easy to use and navigate – 15 million visitors per month seem to agree! The easy to use tabs do exactly what they’re intended to do without you having to click several times to get to the page you’re looking for.
Utilizes Social Media
Urbandictionary.com has joined the social media bandwagon and to great effect as well. Yet they’re not on every social media site going just the ones that are appropriate and suit they’re type of message which are Facebook and Twitter.
It’s Just Fun
The main reason I love this website is that it’s fun – fun to use, fun to read and fun to visit. It’s been going since 1999 so it must be doing something right!
