The key to inbound marketing is about paying attention. To succeed to have to be constantly attuned to the media, your competition, your customers, and your current environment basically everything. Let’s face it if you are not paying attention next time you turn around it will be your competitors taking advantage of inbound marketing.

Inbound Marketing versus Traditional Marketing

Traditional marketing is about investing money and lots of money where as inbound marketing is about investing time, energy, imagination and information.

Inbound marketing is for companies that may have small budgets but big goals whereas traditional marketing is aimed and geared for the big businesses willing to spend big.

Traditional marketing focuses on different results to inbound marketing. Traditional marketing tends to look at sales, number or leads or traffic to your website. But inbound marketing is all about return on your invest and driving profit in the right direction.

Inbound marketing understands that people are looking for solutions to their issues. But compare this against traditional marketing where the focus is about them but about you and how great you are. Inbound marketing is about talking to them and with that you will have their attention.

Traditional marketing looks for quick wins, what is the most that I can make from a customer whereas inbound marketing is looking at the life time value of your clients and the value that the client receives in return.

Inbound marketing like traditional marketing believes that advertising works such as having a website or performing email marketing also works. But after that is where they differ, inbound marketing is about using different forms of advertising for a total strategy. Inbound marketing is about using different combinations that drive long term value for you and your customers.

Lastly my favourite difference between inbound marketing and traditional marketing is that inbound marketing embraces technology; today’s technology is there to give you the advantage over your competition!
