How to use your power to move to effective online marketingWhen assessing whether or not a business has an effective marketing policy in place, there are a number of constraints to take into consideration.  A recently published report by marketing expert firms Eloqua and Econsultancy highlights not only the constraints but also tools from improved performance.

The report begins by reviewing marketing practices by identifying some key questions.

Do you have a marketing budget?

Firstly, a review of the budget planning process is essential as well as an indication of how it is evolving. It is also important to ask what is the relationship between oversight and excellence in implemented marketing campaigns.

What about your technology?

Thirdly, technology should play a key role in today’s marketing activities and this should also be reviewed. A look at the marketing team, their individual skills and how they marry those skills is telling. While how the team responds to moving goalposts, particularly in the area of financial planning is also essential.

How are you spending your marketing time?

Of the companies surveyed in the report, 30.3 percent generated up to 100 million pounds in revenue annually while more than 50 percent spent a significant amount of time on strategic marketing planning and budgeting.  Also most of the companies involved targeted end-user consumers although businesses that operate B-to-B, large corporation and institutions were also included in the survey.

Is online marketing about ROI?

Across the board, the report found that business marketing practices are leaning towards campaigns that are measurable and tangible. In most companies, business culture has changed so that emphasis now rests on accountability and ROI.  As expected, the report cites the rise in digital technology as fuelling this demand for increased accountability. The ability of digital media to reveal the relationship between activity, data and results, means that marketers are in a position to make strategic decision with regard to both activity and budgeting.

In short, the report states that because of the Web, marketers have never had so much potential power and control over campaigns and smart marketers are taking advantage of that.  How are you using your potential marketing power?
