Are you talking online?

Take 3 people or an iPhone for instant online marketing successOne of the greatest ways that the Internet has changed all our lives is in the way we communicate with each other and consume other media.  Skype is a great example of this. When the Voice over Internet Protocol programme first appeared, users were slow to believe the cost savings that Skype offered. Today Skype has 560 million registered users and more than 8 million of those are paying customers.

One of the features that was key to Skype’s success was its ability to transmit video and of the 95 billion call minutes generated in the first six month of 2010, 40 percent of those were video calls.

Online gaming is big, but can we learn from it?

Online gaming is also hugely popular amongst Internet users of both genders and all ages. When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was launched in 2009, it became the biggest selling game in entertainment history grossing $550 million in the first five days of its release.  Contrary to expectations, female players, 25-years and older make up the largest chunk of online game players accounting for 46.2 percent of all players and 54.6 percent of all game minutes. Online games are also popular with women in the 55 plus age bracket as they make up 17 percent of unique game players.

Have you started to think about podcasts for your business?

Another significant online development is that of the podcast. In the UK, it is estimated that 7 percent of users listen to podcasts on a monthly basis. It’s also 7 percent in Germany, 6 percent in France and 4 percent in Japan.

It appears that people like to see you

Part of this trend is the ever-growing popularity of online video. It is estimated that by 2012, 90 percent of all data will be transmitted by video. Today, approximately 70 percent of all online users use online video, however the US and Europe lags behind in this trend. To date, 11 percent of global online users have adopted mobile video.

Therefore if you are looking for ways to increase your brand presence, look to video.  So go grab the special affects teams from Sex and the City, ring David Brent for your script and go ahead throw in Colin Firth for good luck.  And if that fails simply put an iPhone in a blender......
