How do you consume online media
One of the greatest advancements of the Web 2.0 era is how people consume media. Whereas previously people waited for media to deliver information to them, today’s online users have much greater control not only over what they consume but also how they use that media. The use of online video is one of the greatest indicators of this change. Today approximately 70 percent of online users watch video online although US and European users do lag behind those in the Far East.
Video marketing is start to beat TV
It is estimated that by 2012, 90 percent of online information will be in video format. Yes, video is fast replacing the written word as users preferred method of receiving information. In the workplace, it is now estimated that half of online users watch video at work. And don’t underestimate the power of online video. It has been proven that online video ads have a 65 percent recall rate as opposed to television ads which have a 46 percent recall rate.
Is TV advertising losing its share?
Brand recall is also higher for online video ads at 50 percent as compared to TV’s 28 percent. Online message recall is also higher at 39 percent compared to TV’s 21 percent. While likeability for online ads is also higher at 26 percent compared to TV’s 14 percent. Businesses across the globe are slowly realising the power of online video. In a 2010 survey it was recorded that 80 percent of companies planned to use online video in their online campaigns.
Video growing and growing
The growing popularity of sites like You Tube and Stumble Upon reflect the widening reach of online video, but marketers are planning to bring the technology in house by increasing the number of emails that use online video as well as adding video to key web site landing pages. It is predicted that by 2013, the sum of all forms of video (TV, VoD, internet video, P2P) will exceed 90 percent of global consumer IP traffic. So if you want to reach 90% of people look to video now..... before it kills your website.
