Twitter is ruling online media

Twitter followers are making your Facebook fans look badIn yesterday’s blog, we highlighted that there are now in the region of 200 million. Twitter users posting up to 90 million tweets a day. But the Twitter user is a hungry mole and doesn’t stop there.  The online user that uses Twitter is most likely to have a personal blog or contribute to blogs, post comments or share articles. In essence the Twitter user is a busy bug and is most likely to follow brands and share information about brands that they are loyal to or fans of.

Twitter fans are online gurus

For example, more than 70 percent of Twitter users publish a blog page at least once a month while 70 percent post comments, 61 percent write at least one product review and 61 percent post comments to news sites.  According to an Exact Target survey (July 2010), Twitter users are 6 times more likely to publish articles, 5 times more likely to post blogs, 7 times more likely to make posts to Wikis and 3 times more likely to publish product reviews when compared to non-Twitter users.

And twitter fans love your information

20 percent of consumers opt to follow brands on Twitter for the express purpose of interacting with those brands. Studies show that twice as many men follow brands on Twitter, that’s 29 percent men versus 13 percent women.  Twitter users are most hungry for information about the companies they follow with 9 out of 10 users saying that the search for information was exactly the reason for following a company.

Do not forget to feed your Twitter fans

This shows that companies don’t need to be all flash and baubles to attract Twitter followers, but they do have to be open to honest communication with their customer base. The bottom line here is that Twitter is addictive. Once a user gets sucks in, they can’t get enough. Although traffic on Twitter has risen dramatically in the last year, further huge growth is predicted and savvy businesses would do well to get tweeting now.
