The Power Of Facebook For Marketing: You Can't Ignore It!

Facebook may have began life as a social networking site, but as the site cements its path of world domination, its real power is quickly coming to life! Whereas just a few years ago, advertising was non-existent on the site, today every company that is serious about building an online presence is there, and it is proving a bountiful resource to those who use it right.

Big Brands On Facebook

All the big names are there: from Coca-Cola to Audi all have Facebook pages and even celebrities and pop stars are jumping on the Facebook bandwagon. Why? Facebook really works to market your brand, that’s why. facebook marketing

Recent studies show that 43% of Facebook users ‘like’ or are fans of at least one brand on Facebook. Of that percent, up to 17 percent say that they are more likely to buy from that product as a result of ‘liking’ it on Facebook. Of course the key to Facebook’s success is its unique ability to engage users. Facebook now claims to have almost 600 million users and of those 250 million log into Facebook every day- can you get your head around that?

Get Your Voice In

According to Facebook, there are more than 60 million status updates every day and 30 billion pieces of information which are links to articles, videos or posts are posted every month. In total, it is estimated that users spend 500 billion minutes per month on Facebook. Can you afford not to take your piece of the Facebook pie?

"The Social Network"

Keep in mind that it is still the underlying social aspect of Facebook that drives the site. The average user is connected to 60 pages, groups or events while 70 percent of users engage with platform applications such as Mafia Wars and Network Blogs. The selection of platform applications to choose from grows daily. Currently there are an estimated 550,000 applications available on Facebook.

These stats tie in with the key area for growth for Facebook users which is through the mobile market. There are now more than 100 million users who access Facebook through mobile technology. All this activity confirms that companies who don’t jump on the Facebook gravy train now, are soon to get left behind.

I think Facebook will come around when addressing effective business applications. At this time, however, in my opinion, I think it's still 95% consumer related and B2B folks are far more likely to conduct tangible business connecting with like-minded individuals via social sites like Linked In.

That said, ultimately driving consumers to your fan page and encouraging them to share experiences with their family and friends is invaluable, especially when the exponential effect kicks in.
