What you did not know about You Tube!

You Tube was started in 2005 by three Americans called Chad Hurley, Steven Chen and Jawed Karim. They started it when they wanted an easy way to share video files online. From the outset they saw it as a potentially key tools for company’s marketing activities as well as a fun way for people to share personal events. The first video to ever be shown on You Tube was ‘Me at the zoo,’ which was created and posted by You Tube founder, Jawed Karim. By 2006, just one year after the site was launched, the site reported that up to 65,000 videos were being uploaded to the site daily.
Since then You Tube’s growth has been phenomenal. Today, the site claims that up to 35 hours of video is uploaded every minute. It is estimated that the site now receives more than one billion views per day. After Google and Facebook, You Tube is ranked as the third most visited site on the Internet. In 2008, You Tube expanded the type of videos that could be shown on the site by signing an agreement with MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment and CBS. This meant that full length films and television shows could also be shown on the site.
It also means that the variety of reasons why people use You Tube has also expanded. Today You Tube is not only a way to share personal videos and advertisements but also a way to catch up on key television moments or movie releases. However, video uploads to You Tube are limited to 15 minutes as this is way to prevent people from simply stealing television shows and re-broadcasting them on the site.
For businesses the use of You Tube has changed the way they market themselves. Progressive companies have realised that short videos are preferable to communicate information to customers and this is spearheading a video explosion in promotional fields.
