Marketing Online - Do You Have The Ingredients To Grow Your Website?
Posted by Aleesha Tully on Thu, Mar 31, 2011
You may be thinking that building a website is simply a matter of getting all your company information or product range up online and presenting it in a manner which is easy to navigate. Sorry to say, but this is the wrong attitude!

Although that is certainly part of the process, when it comes to building an effective website that is guaranteed to win your business, there are definitely other factors to take into consideration.
Great Visual Design
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the site has to have all the latest bells and whistles. The current trend in website design is clean and simple. The site should be visually engaging but that doesn’t mean it has to be a work of art. What it does have to do is explain in an instant visual what your company does or product offers.

Good User Interface
You have seconds to engage viewers online. Any complicated or poorly illustrated navigation tools will loose viewers. Think about your target audience. Are they tech-savvy? If not, keep it simple.
‘Above the Fold’ Design
It’s important to keep the most crucial information ‘above the fold’ i.e. in the top 500 pixels of your page design. Here, should go your logo and navigation bar. This header should remain static throughout the site.
Content is King
Don’t dump an old brochure text into the site content pages. Copy that is written for print does not necessarily translate to the Internet. When it comes to websites, keep the ‘less is more’ rule in mind. Readers spend an average of 3 to 5 seconds on each page.
And Don’t forget…
Two of your most important pages will be the About page and Contact page. Readers what to know who the authors are or what qualifies them to offer the website. Likewise there is nothing more frustrating for a user than trying to contact a business and not being able to find contact details on the website.
These are just some of the pointers to keep in mind when creating a website. If you would like more information on website design,
