This week are looking at a recent Conductor / Econsultancy report which highlights the various trends affecting SEO and online marketing for the coming year. Where any digital process is concerned, the report reminds us, automation is always a possibility and it is beginning to be more widely applicable to the processes of digital marketing.
The key advantage of automation is that it allows repetitive tasks to be taken care of automatically without the manual intervention of the marketer. As time progresses, the level of automation that a marketer has access to is also changing. Whereas ten years ago it was the norm to send out hundreds of undifferentiated emails, today it is possible to have an individual email response set out immediately in response to a specific query. This level of automation adds much value to customer service levels whilst also freeing the marketer’s time.
Marketers are also looking for ways that SEO can save time in terms of mapping competitive environments and making changes to improve performance. When surveyed, the report showed that up to 55 percent of respondents were putting strategies in place to take advantage of SEO platforms to gather information, manage SEO strategy and add visibility to workflows.
For many companies the next question is whether to buy in or build their own SEO platforms. For the majority of companies the answer to the question is determined by the level of in-house expertise. When surveyed, up to 46 percent of respondents had chosen to buy in SEO as they did not have the ability to build an SEO platform. Also of concern to marketers is the ability to keep pace with industry changes in SEO.
In short, because the SEO industry is subject to such fast paced changes, the majority of marketers are more comfortable buying in the expertise, rather than taking the risk of building it in-house.
