The following are some tips on developing your social media strategy:
Plan, plan, and plan some more.
If you are serious about putting your brand in the social media medium, you have to come up with a plan. Where are you now, and what do you want to achieve? Get these down and then fill in the gaps in the middle. Plan your time frame. Where do you want to be in three months time? Six months? Refer back to your plan regularly during your social media campaign. Make sure you are sill on track to achieving your goal.
1) Sit down and discuss with your partners and staff. What’s the best thing about your business? What excites you about it? This will help you to develop the message you will be pushing out through social media.
2) Do you want to sell more products, increase brand awareness, improve your reputation? Define your goals.
3) Do you think you will get value from a social media project? Discuss with your team. Carrying out a social media project does take up some resources in terms of time and brain power, so make sure you are committing to something you feel you will get value from.
4) Are your target customers available to you in the social media world? With so many platforms out there, and increasing use of Facebook and LinkedIn by users young and old, it is likely that they are accessible to you through social media.
5) Can you speak the language of your targets? Depending on your brand, you may have to use either informal, slang, or perhaps more formal wording. Make sure you have a staff member on hand to assist you in “getting down” with your target audience!
6) Relating to number 5, get a great writer. Nothing will drive your audience away more than bad writing or writing that isn’t relevant to them.
