Social Media Deadly Sins To Avoid

Social Media Deadly Sins To AvoidThere’s a bandwagon on the social media train for marketing, networking and the sharing of data. Think about life five years ago and you get the sense that social media has revolutionized the way that businesses, brands and communities deal with one another. It’s been a great asset to small businesses especially, as it gives smaller firms the ability to compete for an audience that wasn’t possible before. When used incorrectly though, there are a number of sins that can be committed. Here, we point out a few with the hope that social media marketers will take note!

Social Media Neglect

Setting up your profile isn’t enough. Regular engagement will be more effective than the odd tweet or post. Quieter accounts, even if they have one post every so often still won’t be noticed. Likewise if users visit your accounts or Facebook pages and don’t see any recent updates, they won’t be enthused. Set a schedule for social media engagement and stick to it for optimum results.

Nobody likes a loudmouth

Don’t constantly broadcast. Your followers won’t appreciate constant statements and tweets without any engagement. A better approach is to focus on one or two quality statements that encourage engagement from the users. Unless you are a news channel, there is no need to be broadcasting a constant stream with little engagement. It will only turn your followers off.

Don’t be a robot

Your social media accounts can have more of a personality than your clinical and professional website. Most social media users expect this, and appreciate it. It’s ok to have some wit as long as you stay “PC”, as most users will prefer to follow and engage than with an account that is on autopilot. Even if this involves posting things that aren’t relevant to your business, like current events or topical issues, it’s a good idea because it puts a personal face behind the brand.

These are just a few of our deadly sins. To learn about more deadly social media sins to avoid, contact SiliconCloud today.
