How Often Should We Be Using SEO Keywords??

How Often Should We Be Using SEO KeywordsSEO is a bit of an art form and the skills needed come over time. Unfortunately, SEE isn’t for everyone but for those of us who “get it”, it tends to be an instinctual thing. One issue which comes up a lot is the question of your meta keywords- that is, how many should you use and how often?

Is it all about the SEO keywords?

This topic is where you can define the SEO masters from the wannabes. Speak to a rookie and they will tell you it’s “all about the keywords”, and you will find your content is populated by a lot of inconsistent keywords, and it’s probably a bit overwhelming. While it is important that your main keywords feature in your content on a regular basis, it is vital not to overdo it. The reason for this is that if the algorithm Google uses to scan websites decides that your keywords are overbearing, it could penalize your entire website for it.

Who are you writing your SEO for? The Google bot or the human?

The right method to take is to write your content with the idea in mind that you have to write to human readers, not for the benefit of a Google bot. Your content should always be clear, concise, and make sense. Only use keywords where appropriate- do NOT attempt to shove them in for the sake of it. The goal is to have people linking back to your articles and your website pages using your choosing SEO keywords in the text of those links. Google is pretty smart- it will recognize organic links compared to robotic links and give organically linked articles higher priority. Creating topical, useful content is the best way to improve your SEO, because if it is good content then people will share it and link back to it.

The search engine is where the buying process starts with consumers and businesses alike, so SEO has to be a priority for your business website. Getting found easily on Google is one of the most powerful weapons in an online marketing arsenal.

I agree that it's important to write for people more than search engines. As you say, links back to your site from people who liked your content will tend to compensate for lack of thought regarding keyword selection.

However I do think that it's a good idea to be at least mindful of keywords when writing pages and blog posts. And it helps if you can think about what people will most likely be searching for when looking for the kind of information you intend to deliver to them.

When you've decided on what those keywords are then you should put them in the titles, since titles seem to hold a huge amount of significance in Google's eyes.

Rookie or pro, it IS all about the keywords.

It is not so much how many times you use them but more about how and where you display them.

Primary keywords should be in the domain name, title, description and meta tags and on page in h1.

Secondary keywords should be in h2 and descriptive of the h1.

best,
