A Great Call to Action Requires A Little Bit of Strategy

Call to ActionIn the digital marketing process, nothing is more of a focal point than the call to action. A call to action is what all digital media campaigns are pivoted around, be it an email marketing campaign, social media campaign, blogging series or PPC project. A call to action is not just limited to ecommerce sites- this is a common misconception. Every website should have a point- an objective. In fact, every page on a website should have a call to action, whether it be filling out a contact form, signing up for a blog subscription or downloading some resources.

A call to action ensures that there is:

  • A focus to your website

  • A direction for your website visitors

  • A tangible way to measure your website’s effectiveness

So what’s the best way to go about creating a call to action? Take a look at some of our techniques.

Build Up to the Call to Action

In order for a website visitor to act, they need to recognize the need to act. Set out the problem that needs to be solved, or the question that needs to be answered, and then offer up your solution. Lay out what the user will get from following through with the call to action. What’s in it for them?

Offer your website visitors something

Sometimes, your website visitors may need that extra bit of encouragement. How about offering incentives? These can include discount coupons, entry to a competition, a free gift, a free white paper or webinar. Take the Barack Obama website for example. If supporters made a donation of over $30 then they received a free t-shirt. The genius behind this campaign was of course that not only was money raised, but those who wore the t-shirt became a free advertisement!
