Social Media Is All About the Human Factor

When taking on a social media project for their organization, some business owners can lose sight of why they are taking on social media and why social media works. The truth is, so many businesses will hop on the social media bandwagon just for the sake of it, and this often results in poor social media results.
Human or robot in social media?
Think about it this way: when you make a call to your insurance company, would you rather speak to a computer or to a real human being? Would you be surprised or perhaps even happy because an actual real person answers the phone? It’s the same with social media. The world is full of automation and disconnection these days, and social media done right offers a human connection for customers and potential customers.
So what are your social media people or marketing team getting wrong? If you go to a corporate brand’s Twitter account you will likely see the problem. Automated, formal, business updates. There is no scope for conversation or relationship building. There is almost a wall going up between the reader and the company. That’s not what Twitter, or any other social media format is for. It’s about being down on a similar level to the reader, relating to them and connecting with them on a human level.
It’s all ME ME ME in social media, right?
Don’t let your social media conversation be one-way. In addition, don’t let the conversation be 100% about your brand. There is more to life, and most readers are on social media as an extension of their life. If you want real engagement and gratification, think outside the box. The self-obsessed brand won’t gain any fans. Comment on relevant news stories or important current topics, and share YouTube videos you love.
