Your Hotel’s Search Engine Rankings Boosted… For Free!

Starting an SEO project for your hotel requires a bit of homework. The first thing to understand is that Google and Bing use algorithms for local listings based on how much they trust that your hotel is legitimate. Why is this? It’s because Google wants to save face. If Google returns a page full of search results for “London hotels” and most of the hotels are actually closed, Google takes a reputation hit. Fewer people will use their search engine and so they lose money. This is because Google make billions from their PPC advertising, and less people clicking on adverts means less billions.
Now we understand why Google has to vet their listings before they show them. No, they don’t send out a rep to survey your property: everything is built into their algorithm. Figure out how the algorithm works, and you can use this to your advantage. The below tips outline some of the things you can do to boost your hotel’s listing in the eyes of Google’s algorithm.
Local listings are important to Google
It’s important to claim all the local listings for your property that you can. By verifying all the local listings for your area, you can be sure that your contact details (name, address, phone number) are correct across the Internet.
Consistency is important. Remember that users want to trust you. If your hotel has two different names in two different listings, this will generate confusion and mistrust. If Google sees different listings for your hotel, it won’t have full trust in your listing either. Don’t forget to add your hotel to Google business listings, too.
Get a specific location page for your hotel
If you are part of a chain, don’t just list the hotel under one big “our locations” page. Each location should have it’s own onsite page. Even better, if your hotel can have it’s own domain name, this gives it further legitimacy.
On every page, ensure title and meta tags contain appropriate keywords, and add locations to keywords and titles.
