Google Makes At Least 10 Further Algorithm Changes
Posted by Patrick Murphy on Wed, Nov 23, 2011
Google has updated its very useful and informative blog with more details on recent algorithm changes. We’re thankful that their blog is so active, because at least it helps us keep on top of these changes that seem to just keep on coming!
Google keeps their blog updated in order to share their opinions on the methodology and process behind their search ranking, evaluation and algorithmic changes. Over the past couple of weeks, a huge number of changes have been rolled out.
Did you know: Google makes over 500 changes to search algorithms in a given year?
Translated search titles
If English is not your first language and you make a search where results in your language aren’t available, Google will translate, English-only sites and display them below each search result. This opens up a whole new world of web content to non-English speakers. Go on, put on your best French-language hat and give it a try!
Improved snippets
Snippet content will now show more of the page content and less of the header content. This is a reminder to all of us that while header tags and title tags are still important, they must be relevant to our content and most importantly our content must have relevant keywords in it too.
Google page titles
We should all have title tags: it’s a basic rule of SEO. But if a page doesn’t Google comes up with its own. It does this by looking at back links to this page from other parts of the site.
Improved official page detection
Google has ways to figure out if your site is an “official” site or a bogus rip off. It’s improved this algorithm again, so it’s best to look out for guides on how to make this work for you. We’ll have one soon, but the best thing is to make sure you are filling out all social profiles with links to your official site and provide back links to it. It’s one of the ways Google will determine if your site will rank highly or not.
