What’s The Point in Having Great Content If You Can’t Get People To Share It?

Creating great content means that you’ll get engaged visitors, but getting them to share out that content is just another challenge. It’s not as easy as you’d think! Recent survey results suggest that 55% of people who like a page later decide they no longer wish to see that company’s post. So are you producing constant engaging content, and also making sure that it’s easily shared?
Make sharing easy
Some people look at social sharing buttons skeptically. They think it may not fit in with their design or make the content look cluttered. But the reality is that they’re a necessity. Consider social sharing buttons like easy pickings. In recent survey results, it was found that users who had a Twitter share button on their blog or website were 7 times more likely to be mentioned on the platform. If just adding a small button can create that increase in social sharing, have you any excuse not to try it?
Carry out an audit of social media, and determine what information is relevant to your followers
Be sure to share just the content that interests certain followers: Facebook fans may be interested in different kinds of content than LinkedIn fans, for example. On Google+, you can segment followers into circles and share appropriate content with each. This makes the entire social sharing experience much more customized.
Social media isn’t just the domain of marketers
Social sharing has always been the tool of choice for the marketing department. But perhaps it could be used by other areas of the business too? How about allowing the HR team to use social media for recruitment purposes? Social media is growing as a way to find work- 14.4 million people have used social media find a job in 2011 already.
Focus on making it easy to share your content, and always ask people to share it out in your posts. Just a one line asking people to share can be surprisingly effective.
