Our Social Media Predictions for 2012

Are you looking forward to the New Year? This year has been great for social media growth in the marketing world, and we can’t wait to see what 2012 will bring. Here are some of our predictions for where social media will go in 2012:
2012 Will Be The Year of Mobile
No, this title doesn’t belong to 2011. 2012 will be the year that social media goes truly mobile. Expect to see more companies make their content more mobile friendly. This means everything should be mobile friendly- including websites, social media profiles, and downloadable content. Haven’t started working on it yet? Get going and stay ahead of the crowd!
Remember that mobile social media will be about instant information retrieval, instant gratification, and quick ecommerce. Start working on a plan now.
Multimedia will dominate
2012 will be the year for the multimedia social network. Why so? Because people are getting tired of being fed the same boring textual content over and over. Photo and video sharing networks force the marketer to pay more attention to content and editing. The time spent going through this creative process will allow marketers to really judge whether their content is of value and if people will want to see it.
There is a huge appetite for multimedia content in social media. It’s already been shown through the success of Instagram and Pinterest, and of course YouTube still dominates. The move to html5 video has also ushered the way towards mobile social media content- the iPad is the most popular tablet on the planet and it doesn’t even support flash video.
Websites with multimedia content aren’t going to kick Facebook off it’s pedestal, but Facebook is going to have to adapt. It already has, with greater options for the uploading of photos and video. The crew over at Facebook knows that text isn’t the only way to make a personal status update anymore.
